Since moving to Vancouver Island, I have been drawn to some of the more coastal decor styles. I have felt, in the past, that a “beachy” theme can end up a little cheesy and contrived, especially when you live in a land-locked prairie town. But being by the ocean, I want to add some of my surroundings to my decor. The trick with driftwood, and other beach styles, is to keep it simple and classic. Not so much a theme as a touch of the beach in your home. So I have found some great ideas to bring your finds home and work them into your space.
I love these driftwood headboard ideas. Especially the reclaimed wood border from House and Home that has that ocean-worn colour. Sometimes you do find beams washed up on shore! The basic planked headboard from DigsDigs is simple and beautiful.
Driftwood wall “art” can often come off as cheesy and childlike. I love these three options for upscale pieces. A great way to use all those small driftwood pieces collected during walks on the beach! The driftwood mirror by Sustain My Craft Habit is versatile and would be at home in your entryway or bathroom. The driftwood wreath by Luscious and Lively (yeah, that’s me!) is beautiful indoors and out. The collection of driftwood made into art from Indulgy just takes my breath away. It is gorgeous, but can you imagine the hours spent fitting each piece together?
These driftwood occassional tables are some of my favourites. They showcase how sculptural driftwood can be, but are extremely simple and functional. I love the entryway table from WooHome. If you know the source for this other gorgeous entry table please tell me! The large round coffee table from All Driftwood Furniture would be such a statement piece in the middle of a living room.
I love these simple ways to bring driftwood into your home, no tools required. This succulent planter from ehow makes a stunning centerpiece. The driftwood bookends from Folksy are a cute coastal decor addition, without being “look what I made at summer camp, Mom!” And when in doubt, just take a page from Completely Coastal. Find a fantastic basket and fill it with collected driftwood. Seriously, we can ALL pull that one off!
So next time you are strolling along the beach, keep some of these projects in mind!
Tell me, which project are you dying to try? Do you love driftwood decor?
